How the names are assigned

Each full moon takes the traditional name of its month by Eastern Time date. Two names move with the sky instead of the calendar. The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the September equinox, so in some years it falls in October. The Hunter's Moon is always the next full moon after it. A second full moon in the same calendar month is listed as a Blue Moon.

Supermoons

The Moon's orbit is an ellipse, and its distance from Earth changes between roughly 356,000 and 407,000 km during each orbit. When a full moon falls near the closest point, the Moon looks a little larger and brighter. This calendar calls a full moon a supermoon when the Moon is less than 360,000 km from the center of the Earth at the moment of full moon, and gives that distance in the Notes column.

How the times are calculated

Full moon is the moment when the Moon is exactly opposite the Sun in ecliptic longitude, as seen from the center of the Earth. Astrodamus finds it with Swiss Ephemeris and rounds it to the minute. When a full moon falls close to one of the Moon's nodes, Earth's shadow touches the Moon and you get a lunar eclipse, marked in the Notes column.

A phase happens at the same instant for everyone, but your clock shows a different hour and sometimes a different date. A full moon at 11:00 PM Eastern Time is 8:00 PM in Los Angeles on the same date and already the next date in UTC and in Europe. That is why a calendar made for London or Moscow can disagree with this one by a day. All dates on this page are Eastern Time dates.

Today's phase and every quarter: Moon phases 2026–2027. The other end of the cycle: new moon dates. Also: eclipses, Mercury retrograde.

Frequently asked questions

When is the next full moon?

The Beaver Moon on November 24, 2026, at 9:53 AM ET (14:53 UTC), with the Moon in Gemini. After that: the Cold Moon on December 23, 2026 and the Wolf Moon on January 22, 2027.

What are the full moon names?

This calendar uses the traditional names popularized by American farmers' almanacs, which attribute them to Native American (largely Algonquian) and colonial traditions: January Wolf Moon, February Snow Moon, March Worm Moon, April Pink Moon, May Flower Moon, June Strawberry Moon, July Buck Moon, August Sturgeon Moon, September Corn Moon, October Hunter's Moon, November Beaver Moon, December Cold Moon. The full moon nearest the September equinox is called the Harvest Moon instead.

What is the Harvest Moon?

The full moon closest to the September equinox: September 26, 2026 in 2026 and September 15, 2027 in 2027. Around it the Moon rises only a little later each evening, so there is bright moonlight right after sunset for several nights in a row. The full moon after the Harvest Moon is the Hunter's Moon; when the Harvest Moon falls in October, September's full moon keeps the name Corn Moon.

What is a Blue Moon?

Here a Blue Moon is the second full moon in one calendar month, counted by Eastern Time dates. In 2026–2027: May 31, 2026. An older almanac rule instead names the third full moon in a season that has four.

What is a supermoon?

There is no official definition. This calendar marks a supermoon when the full moon is less than 360,000 km (about 223,700 miles) from the center of the Earth, so it looks slightly bigger and brighter than usual. In 2026–2027: December 23, 2026, January 22, 2027. Other sources use other thresholds, so their lists can differ.

How long does a full moon last?

Astronomically, the full moon is a single moment, the time shown in the table. To the eye the Moon looks full for about a day before and after it, so the nights around the date also look like a full moon.

What is the full moon good for in astrology?

Tradition treats the full moon as a peak: a time to finish things, celebrate and take stock, while new projects are usually started after the next new moon. Emotions are said to run high, so it is a good moment to pause before big decisions. This is a tradition, not a guarantee.
